The shoes - the shoes are some of the best money I've ever spent on cycling in the last 30 years - they are D2 customs. I don't recall what they cost but I seem to remember their not being much more than Sidis with the added benefit that they actually fit my odd and broken feet. I have two different sized feet and very high arches that many out of the box shoes won't wrap over. I tried other customs (Rocket 7) and they were just OK. I got the D2s about 3 years ago and they kick butt. They fit so well closing the straps on top seems like a formality. I highly recommend D2. With a shoe that fits the way it should you are more comfortable and more efficient and with a seriously light shoe the pedals spin up just that much faster.

The tires - I'm using Schawlbe Ultremos in a 700 x 25 and love them. I do ride dirt quite often and as long as the dirt is hard packed they work very well. In lose stuff they suck like every other road tire but on hard pack they fly. I run 100 psi in the rear and 90 psi in front and I weigh 180 lbs. I've only had them for this season so I don't know how well they will wear but I suspect they will wear just fine. I certainly like the ride and the turn-in. Another highly recommended product.

Don't hold your breath on the Kirk MTB line........ call Carl Strong and he'll hook you up.

Thanks for the question.

Tell us about the custom shoes. Also, are those 25mm tires you're running on dirt roads (you're a tougher guy than I am . . . but that isn't news). Or are you just building up to unveiling the Kirk mountain bike line?

It's funny - they were sleeping so peacefully until I rolled up and then one stood up and came quickly toward the fence and the others all went on guard. Not usre what I said but they didn't like it.
