The first show bike of the 2010 season is done and has gone into the box for the trip to JB’s for paint. I just need to think about how it will be painted and it being a show bike doesn’t make that choice any easy I have to tell you. My personal tastes often go toward very simple and modern looking – sort of Dwell magazineish – but I’m not sure that is the best choice for a show bike.
This will require a good dark beer and some time in my favorite chair. I’ll let you know what I come up with.

Beautiful! Looks great… love those flat crown forks.
Heck — all your bikes are show bikes. And although I’ve never read Dwell, I believe simple, functional and classic is a look we all associate with you. But I wager that if you mention the dark beer to JB, the bike will come back painted black and tan.
BTW, I assume this one will this one have cantilevered brakes? Fenders? What other show bikes are you contemplating?
Hey Eric,
I won’t see JB again until showtime but I’ll be buying him whatever beer he wants then……. dark, light…….. hell I’ll even buy him a Zima if he wants!
My current road bike is black and tan. Maybe I think about dark beer too often?
This bike is a pure cross race bike with one exception and that is it has bottle bosses. But otherwise is pure race business so there are no fender or rack mounts and yes it’s set up for canti brakes.
The next show bike is a customer bike and it’s a JKS. The final of the three will be a fillet brazed frameset and it will be shown sans paint and in the raw.
Will you make it to the show? It’s a good time.
Dave
Oh, I’d love to make the show, but I am a west coast guy and it’s an east coast show this year. I think I will make it to one of these soon enough. Tell Don to bring it to Seattle sometime (or Tacoma or Spokane if he wants to keep the rents down). Do bend an elbow with JB for me ( . . . not so sure about bending it with a Zima, though).
