JKS for Belgium

This JK Special is heading off to what seems to me to be the home of great cycle racing – Belgium. I love the spring classic road races with the wind , cold rain, narrow cobbled roads and super steep short power climbs. I can never get enough of watching the hard men of the sport hammer the roads of Belgium in the spring.

I know this JKS will feel at home in those conditions and hope Reinhard enjoys it for years to come. It’s on it’s way to JB right now and then it will make the long trip to it’s new home. I look forward to photos of it in it’s element.

    Dave,
As always, your creations are very inspiring. I was wondering if you just fillet braze you stays to the breezer dropouts. I haven’t done this method and just have a hard time wrapping my head around the thought of it being a strong joint. Help rest my mind. Thanks, Wil

    Hey Wil,

Yes I do fillet the stays to the dropouts. It’s an extremely strong joint when done properly. It’s very much like a mini-bottom bracket joint and the important thing is to be sure that there be a proper internal fillet on the inside of the tube. This gives the joint reinforcement on both the inside and outside and makes the joint bullet-proof. It takes some practice to get the internal fillet right but it’s worth the time.
