The "Kit Kat Kirk" near Greenwich, CT.
See a close-up photo of the cool colors in the photo gallery.

Back from the Dolomites! The trip was good - out of 30+ bikes just a couple of steel and the Kirk was the only lugged one. Smooth, comfortable and very reassuring heading down the Stelvio (3 times), the Gavia, the Mortirollo (unspeakably steep).

- Jim Mewkill

This picture is coming up the Swiss side of the Stelvio on the gravel section.

Jeff Gardner from Buffalo NY wrote,

Thanks for building the bike of my dreams. The design utilizing long reach brakes provides so many tire choices. My bike performs well in a pace line running 23mm tires or riding off road with 30mm cross tires. I have a few Carbon and Ti bikes, but nothing beats a well-designed steel bike! The workmanship is amazing, the geometry is dead on, and the ride is so smooth. I wanted an all arounder with a race bike look and feel. Your expertise made my dream a reality!

This classic road bike gets to see lots of nice scenery!

Greg's Terraplane touring bike, built for Honjo fenders

H. Frank Beshears' coppertone Terraplane, out for a summertime jaunt with Jason Stell's (far left).

"Just came back from a few days of cycling in Sicily (which is really hilly!) and thought this photo of the bike came out pretty well. It rode spectacularly as always (if I kept only 1 bike, it would be this one.)"

Photos on the right are from an earlier trip to the Giro d'Italia.

Peter and Kris from Afton, MN with their complimentary Kirk Terraplanes. This husband and wife team report "these bikes have definitely improved our quality of life."

Peter also wants everyone to know that his jersey is THE original Budweiser from the Czech Republic, not the American version.

Amanda Vargo of Denver, CO suffered the disastrous event of being hit by a car and having her beloved Kirk Terraplane totaled. She was thankfully OK, and insurance allowed her to purchase another frame, essentially identical to the original. So Amanda is once again happily cruising the Rocky Mountain roadways on a fabulous orange Terraplane!

Ian Macartney from Grand Rapids, MI, writes:

"Built, the bike is nice and quite light.  No wobble when hands-off either. The paint is simply the greatest color.  Blinding."

"I'm very pleased with both the looks and the ride quality...Total weight as you see it is 20.5 lbs."

- Ben Kirk

"Thanks you so much for building me a bike that can be ridden the way I want. This bike is a dream come true."

"...exceeded my expectations in every way. Perfect fit, perfect handling, comfy ride - you nailed it! ... I'd have stayed out riding all day, but my toes froze."

Amanda Vargo's fabulous orange Terraplane from Denver, CO

"The best way to describe my Terraplane is that it feels good and makes me want to ride longer. Thanks Dave and JB for this moving work of art."

John Mills, Rochester, MN

"Winter has hit fairly hard here but I have had 1 good ride on the terraplane. An interesting sidelight, the French in WW1 on the forts at Verdun mounted their cannon on fighting platforms called "terreplein."
On this platform the only thing I will be fighting is fatigue, miles and the weather. I have a 3.5 mile loop in my neighborhood that I use frequently. It has a couple downhills some false flat and a kilometer at 5% and no stop signs!
Within the first mile I knew this bike was a good one!. The frame inspires confidence is good looking and fits me well."

Robert Molle, Columbia, MD

"Smiling customer, really!"

Laura Ouellette's galactic Terraplane, from Milford, Michigan

Neil Andersen, from England writes:
"...received the frame late last week and built it up straight away so I could try it at the weekend. Firstly what a great color! The build and finish quality is the best I have ever seen, I especially like the flat fork crown and the head tube guides without adjusters, they look much better. The seat stays are very elegant and work very well, an ideal balance of stiffness and comfort. Many thanks for the care taken in assembling your frames, the results give pleasure even before the ride begins."

Dustin Sharp's classic road bike,
from Washington DC.

David Grey enjoys his Terraplane road bike on hilly roads in sunny Los Angeles, California.

Bottom line...this is the best bike I have ever ridden, by a long shot. Smooth and comfortable for hours and hours. With the Terraplane option, high frequency road vibration is a thing of the past. high speed cornering is confidence inspiring. Disc brakes, fenders, smooth ride, and only 21.5 lbs! The SRB (Seattle Rain Bike) is the dream bike of a lifetime.
Thank you, Dave!

This is a special bike built for my Dad, Jim. It's been an absolute pleasure to build a new bike for my Dad - so nice when I can do something nice for him after all he's done for me!

Jim writes of the color of his frame,
"The orange frame brought back memories of one of my favorite early snack foods: Creamsicles. "

Terry Brownell writes of his new Kirk:

"Had it out for a spin yesterday and I have to say Dave, it might be the finest riding bike I own from a handling and comfort perspective. And I have some pretty nice steel bikes."

Dave S. from Marin County, California writes:

"We finally dried out here in Marin County and I took the camera out on last week's ride. Had a great day and am very pleased with the MRB design (I call it a Marin Road Bike)."

This photo was taken from Ridgecrest Ave about 2,000 ft up Mt Tam in Marin County, CA. Stinson Beach and Bolinas Lagoon are in the background. Photo taken Feb 7, 2004.

An all-business, rain-ready road bike.

Here's the surprise Hello Kitty bike,
all decked out with a giant red bow.

Hello Kitty all built up, complete with 155mm TA cranks, about as tiny as you can imagine.
"Bike looks great and came together beautifully. Just perfect."

"Here is a picture of Aimee standing with Hello Kitty. She is a very, very happy gal after her first ride ... and Kitty acquitted herself brilliantly. Many thanks again for your fine, fine work and for making my wife so happy on her bicycle."

Dave Thompson's Kirk road bike.

Dave was the first Kirk customer, and we will always be thankful that he helped get things started.

Dave Thompson's bike after addition of Terraplane stays and a new paint job.

"Terraplane is much 'smoother'... particularly over the rougher chip-seal roads. I was very surprised at the almost total lack of road buzz."
